Hailing from the northern hills, the Velites, are a mounted skirmishing unit consisting of sharpshooters trained in the Pyrenees Mountains. This formation, encompassed of diehard warriors, ensures reconassiance on the battlefield as well as support from both closeup and afar for the infantry. The enemy's worst nightmare, these patriotic men are equipped with saber and carabiner prepared to fight with blood, tears, and sweat to ensure a future for a greater Octavium.
History
The Velites are the youngest division of the Army, and the server they occupy was not built for them. It was raised on 15 February 2026 under the name Legionary Slavic-Volunteers, for a Russian contingent from Stalemated whose leader, Elias Rurik, had agreed to merge into the Orderstate. The Graend Council made the preparations. Uniforms were made, a team was set up, and custom weaponry and cavalry assets were to be issued to them and to nobody else. On 20 February the Orderstate announced that Rurik had instead turned his privileges against it and that the merger was dead. The Roblox group had been created on the same day as the server, 15 February.
The Velites opened publicly the day after that announcement. The notice of 21 February 2026 was headed "Grand Opening of the Legionary's Finest" and described a mountainous skirmishing unit of sharpshooters trained in the Pyrenees Mountains, sworn to liberate their homeland from Teutonnian rule. The group held twelve members that day. The motto then was not the present one. It read "By God our homeland will be ours again". By 8 March the roster stood at 36.
The division rewrote its own definition repeatedly in its first two months. The advertisement of 27 February replaced "mountainous skirmishing unit" with "mounted skirmishing unit". On 8 March it added mounted dragoon and mounted hunter. On 6 April it was rewritten again, as a mountainous cavalry formation of hardened riders trained in highland warfare, with the Equites named as the hammer of the legions. Command was the weak point throughout. On 11 March Aleczaender wrote that the Velites had suffered continued failures in their leadership, and opened the post to applicants who could bring twenty men in from outside. He advertised the post again on 14 May. On 24 March the division itself asked publicly for active members to replace an inactive roster.
The Velites fought the Armored in the Legionary War Games on 28 March 2026 and won, then were disqualified the next day and a rematch was ordered. When the Orderstate split into Carlists and Falangists on 28 May, the Legionary Velites declared for Carlism. The Army of Octavium was raised as a branch on 4 June and the division was rebuilt into it the following day, its server given a Skirmish, a Recon and a Cavalry Battalion. The first bi-weekly rally under the new structure was held on 13 June at Mount Invictus. On 23 June a new Overseeing Major General was appointed after his predecessor was removed for inactivity. Numbers stayed thin. A rally on 27 June drew five men, and a poll the next day found that most of those missing had been locked out by the age restriction on the game.
The division still sits in the server raised for the Slavic-Volunteers, and its Roblox group is still registered under a misspelling, Velites Divison of Octavium. Its function has settled as a mounted skirmisher unit and its motto is now "Shoot twice and go home".
