Also known as the military field police, the Gendarmeric, is committed to enforcing military law and, if necessary, civil law to maintain the stability of the far reaching provinces of Octavium. The Gendarmeric will not hesitate to use a baton when dealing with delinquent criminal filth. The Gendarmeric uphold discipline in the name of establishing an orderly society for the Imperium.
History
The Gendarmerie is one of the older names in the Octavian order of battle. It first served in the Eternal Octavian Imperium, the group Aleczaender founded with Parsifal on 19 September 2020 and known simply as Octavia. There it was the military police, holding both military and civil police powers. Its uniform had been drawn up as the main army uniform, but was swapped at the last minute because the green sat too close to Francoist Spain. The replacement came out very near Richterist red, and Richterists joined the formation because of it. The Gendarmerie held tryouts before Octavia had even launched, which pushed other divisions into building maps and doing the same, and it remained the most active division in Octavia through to the Galactic period. It was led first by General LordHerkunft, then by KongRichterian, under the oversight of VianyRichterian.
The name survived the fall of Octavia but lost its independence. Through the Legionary Orderstate the Gendarmerie was not a division but a Century of the Legionary Police, sitting alongside the Watchguard and Riot Centuries. Police recruitment notices from September and October 2025 describe it as the field police, the arm sent into high risk work against organised threats. On 31 December 2025 the Security Praetor's office set the powers out in writing: the Gendarmerie were military police and could punish misbehaving military personnel, with Praetors and above and the Inquisition placed outside their reach.
The division was restored by the Imperial Restoration. Aleczaender announced on 5 June 2026 that the restoration was being enacted and that the branches and divisions would be rebuilt with their own ranks and uniforms. The Gendarmeric Roblox group was created on 4 June 2026 and the Discord server on 9 June. The Gendarmeric returned as a full division of the Army of Octavium with three battalions, Enforcement, Security and Riot. The old police centuries came with it. TrooperAlbion, who took the Riot Battalion, had led the Watchguard Century in the Orderstate police.
The first Gendarmeric rally was held on 13 June 2026 at Mount Invictus and reached twelve men at its peak against a goal of ten. Marcius, on the roll as MarciusBValmont, held the Office of the Divisional General, and SketchSir ran divisional orders and awards. An academy was opened on 11 June, a Logistics Department on 3 July that took enlistment processing away from divisional officers, a fourth battalion named Storm on 8 July, and the Office of Professional Standards on 26 July. The division asked for its military police armbands back on 29 June, and Aleczaender offered instead a choice of Octavian or Zaenderist armbands. In the week of 25 July 2026 the Gendarmeric stood second in the Imperium with 106 hours 57 minutes logged, behind the Guard.
