The elite special forces of the state, the Vanguard, is capable of the most difficult challenges that Aleczaender can give them. The cohort is responsible for carrying out the top orders of the command, performing behind-enemy-lines missions with unwavering precision. Trained relentlessly as the best-of-the-best, these soldiers are prepared to undertake any task given to them, even if it is deemed impossible by the average soldier of the Imperium.
History
The Vanguard was promised before it existed. On 21 August 2025 Aleczaender told the Legionary Orderstate that a bi-weekly rally of 75 men would buy the right to open a new division, and he named the Vanguard as one of the options. The rally on 23 August drew 93. The next day the Orderstate was told the capacity had been unlocked, and a vote was opened on which division to raise first.
The cohort was stood up that autumn. Its Roblox group was created on 21 November 2025 as the Legionary Vanguard of Octavium. The first recorded tryout was held on 29 November 2025, and the rally return of that same day is the first to list the Legionary Vanguard, with six men. Its own Discord server followed on 3 December 2025.
The Vanguard recruited on a narrow brief from the start. The posts of December 2025 describe an elite infantry formation working behind enemy lines, trained for guerrilla tactics, rapid strikes, sabotage and infiltration, and they set entry conditions of combat skill, cooperation and maturity. By 3 February 2026 the division ran a Vanguard Academy and was split into Saboteur, Recon and Specops companies, each with its own damage and healing thresholds for entry.
Its best recorded action came in the Toulouse campaign. On 20 February 2026 the Vanguard trained with the Guard and the Armored on Aleksensky ahead of a raid on Yugoslavia. On 8 April 2026 Vanguard personnel carried out a covert operation against Teutonnic Rulersguard forces outside Toulouse, killing officers, sabotaging equipment and cutting lines of communication, which left the enemy weaker for the assault the following day. Those present were awarded the Zaender High Cross Merit 3rd Class, and two officers the 1st Class.
The reform of June 2026 kept the Vanguard in the Legion but changed its name and its shape. On 5 June 2026 the group became the Vanguard Cohort of Octavium. The server was rebuilt over 5 and 6 June, and the companies gave way to centuries. The century notices published on 26 July 2026 set the Storm Century as the most exclusive, the Palatina Century as the guard century, and the Sentinel Assault Century as the cohort's spearhead abroad and its defensive force at home.
